Our Philosophy recognizes the power and the lessons of the market to address the most profound and seemingly intractable social issues. GoodCap is a bridge between two powerful forces: traditional philanthropy and traditional investment. We balance the experience and social commitment of the philanthropic world with the risk taking, visionary and activist orientation of the investment and business worlds.

Traditional philanthropy often does not address the funding needs of the most risk taking, innovative approaches to solving social challenges. Traditional investment vehicles such as venture capital and lending, on the other hand, are built upon calculations that demand a level of financial return that often cannot be supported when working in the complex and challenging social arena. This is even true of mainstream socially responsible investment, which primarily seeks market rate returns, or is relatively risk averse.

Our Approach is to lead the development of the emerging social capital market while working side-by-side with our industry peers to advance the marketplace. In many cases, we will act as a merchant banker to the space, bringing together a consortium of investors to provide ventures with all of their capital needs including equity, debt, and grants. The social capital market is in its infancy, and part of our mission is to encourage the formation of a vibrant, thriving market through activities ranging from entrepreneur and investor education, to the creation of networks of skill and influence, to researching and disseminating information on the most successful models, funding mechanisms, and other trends.
